JPHS Recognized as Volunteer Organization of the Year by KHS

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) recently recognized the Jackson Purchase Historical Society (JPHS) as the Volunteer Organization of the Year. This award is presented to a group which is managed exclusively by volunteers and has made a substantial contribution to their local history, and one that has been an effective service provider in their community. The JPHS was recognized for their award-winning Journal as well as the wide range of programs offered.

KHS Executive Director Scott Alvey noted the JPHS has done exemplary work this year.  “From their programs to their outstanding Journal, they have done a great job highlighting the history of the region.”  This is the second award the JPHS has received in three years.

The award was presented at the KHS annual meeting and history awards event in Frankfort on November 8th, 2019.  Accepting on behalf of the JPHS was President Bill Mulligan (center).  Pictured on the left is outgoing KHS President Constance Alexander and on the right is incoming KHS President Tommy Turner.

JPHS President Mulligan said “We, all of us who have worked for JPHS over many years, earned this. The award belongs to everyone who has worked since JPHS was founded in 1958 to build a high quality local history organization.”
