    Stories of Interest from the Hickman Courier from December 21, 1872 The Mississippi River was reported as being lower than any of the oldest inhabitants of Hickman could recall.     Stories of Interest from the Hickman Courier from December 14, 1872 The Hickman City Council sought plans to create a fire department and ordered five ladders and other equipment. The Council also considered an amendment to the city charter to permit the city to issue stock in the proposed levee and railroad from Hickman to Tiptonville, Tennessee. The Hickman & Charleston Railroad Extension was promoted by the editor of the Hickman Courier and encouraged businessmen in both communities to work together on the proposed project.
