This Week 150 Years Ago in Hickman – September 29, 1876 The Hickman shoe store of Fred Wehman was broken into and robbed of “fourteen pair of new boots and a few pair of shoes.” The thieves drilled a hole through the outside wall to gain access to the building. Wehman, Marshal James Warner, and a few others started down the river in pursuit on September 23rd. Wehman and the others gave up the chase at New Madrid, Missouri, and returned to Hickman. This Week 150 Years Ago in Hickman – September 22, 1876 The residence of Dr. R. C. Prather, owned by Thomas Jones, was destroyed by fire on September 17th. Fortunately, the home was insured for $1,000. The residencies of John Talley and Carter Blanton also caught fire but thanks to the efforts of their neighbors the homes were saved. Hickman Mayor J. H. Davis, after an absence of several weeks, underwent medical treatment and had displayed improving health. Jewish citizens of Hickman celebrated the Jewish New Year on September 19th. Samuel S.
