The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) recently recognized the Jackson Purchase Historical Society (JPHS) as the Volunteer Organization of the Year. This award is presented to a group which is managed exclusively by volunteers and has made a substantial contribution to their local history, and one that has been an effective service provider in their community. The JPHS was recognized for their award-winning Journal as well as the wide range of programs offered. The Jackson Purchase Historical Society had a delightful meeting in Martin, Tennessee at the Weldon Public Library on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019. JPHS President Bill Mulligan opened the short business meeting before making a presentation to Dr. David Maness, son of long-time JPHS member, Dr. Lonnie Maness, who died in August of 2019. Dr. Marvin Downing, a colleague of Dr. Lonnie Maness, introduced Dr. David Maness, to those in attendance. The presentation included a certificate, officially establishing the Dr. Lonnie E.
