The January meeting of the Jackson Purchase Historical Society will be held at the Lloyd Tilghman House and Civil War Museum at 641 Kentucky Avenue in Paducah on Saturday, January 25 beginning at 10:30. The meeting will focus on irregular warfare in west Kentucky during the Civil War with a focus on the activities of Adam Rankin Johnson. The program will be presented by Derrick Lindow who has recently published We Shall Conquer or Die: Partisan Warfare in Western Kentucky, a thoroughly researched account of Johnson’s activities. THE DEADLINE FOR THE 2025 ISSUE IS MAY 1, 2025 The editor and the editorial board of the Journal of the Jackson Purchase Historical Society welcomes submissions of manuscripts related to the history of the Jackson Purchase region for possible publication in the Journal. The Jackson Purchase, which encompasses most of west Tennessee and southwest Kentucky, was added to the United States in 1818 through a treaty with the Chickasaw Indians. Manuscripts of articles, annotated documents, and interviews related to the Jackson Purchase will be considered for publication in the Journal.
