    Kentucky Historical Society Plans to Celebrate United States 250th Anniversary

    In 2026 the United States celebrates its 250th birthday. To commemorate this sestercentennial anniversary, the Kentucky Historical Society seeks input from citizens, historians, cultural workers, and institutions statewide about what they would like to see during this commemoration. While the bicentennial in 1976 was largely focused on celebrating the founding of the U.S.A., the 250th will reflect on where we have come and how we have grown over the last 250 years.     New Videos Now Available to Stream Online

    Three presentations made to the Jackson Purchase Historical Society earlier this year are now available to view online. The first is Historical Overview of Wickliffe Mounds: A Talk Given by Carla Hildebrand which was presented on May 21, 2022 at the Wickliffe Mounds State Historical Site. Ms. Hildebrand discussed the occupation of the site by the Mississippian culture of Native Americans, the American Revolution, the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Trail of Tears, and the development of the historic site as a tourist attraction in the 20th century.
