In 2026 the United States celebrates its 250th birthday. To commemorate this sestercentennial anniversary, the Kentucky Historical Society seeks input from citizens, historians, cultural workers, and institutions statewide about what they would like to see during this commemoration. Three presentations made to the Jackson Purchase Historical Society earlier this year are now available to view online. The first is Historical Overview of Wickliffe Mounds: A Talk Given by Carla Hildebrand which was presented on May 21, 2022 at the Wickliffe Mounds State Historical Site. Ms. Hildebrand discussed the occupation of the site by the Mississippian culture of Native Americans, the American Revolution, the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Trail of Tears, and the development of the historic site as a tourist attraction in the 20th century.
