    Welcome, Vice President Parker!

    The JPHS is pleased to announce that Richard Parker has accepted appointment as Vice President to replace Bob Lochte who resigned in November, moving to Florida. Parker will serve out the balance of Lochte’s  term. Richard Parker was born in Murray, Kentucky, and grew up in Paris, Tennessee.  He studied History at Murray State University and is currently working towards his Masters at Western Kentucky University.  After teaching History in the public school system, he accepted a position with the U.S. Forest Service as an educator.  He is currently stationed at Golconda Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Golconda, IL.  Besides…

    Alben William Barkley, 35th Vice President, November 24, 1877 – April 30, 1956

    One hundred thirty-three years ago, Willie Alben Barkley was born in Wheel, Graves County, Kentucky, in a log cabin. When old enough, he reversed his name to Alben William because “just imagine the tribulations I would have had, a robust, active boy, going through a Kentucky childhood with the name of “Willie” and later trying to get into politics!” he explained in later years. Always a Democrat, his political ambitions took him from the House to the Senate to the position, at age 70,  of Vice President of the United States (1949-1953, under President Harry S.
