    Stories of Interest from the Hickman Courier from December 14, 1872 The Hickman City Council sought plans to create a fire department and ordered five ladders and other equipment. The Council also considered an amendment to the city charter to permit the city to issue stock in the proposed levee and railroad from Hickman to Tiptonville, Tennessee. The Hickman & Charleston Railroad Extension was promoted by the editor of the Hickman Courier and encouraged businessmen in both communities to work together on the proposed project.     President Bill Mulligan’s Year-end Review

    It has become customary in the Society to send an end of year letter that discusses in a very general way what the society has done in the year that is ending and to outline plans for the year ahead. As everyone is painfully aware the last two years have been unusual, to understate the situation. Our plans, as well intentioned as they were, never quite came to fruition as intended.
