The Jackson Purchase Historical Society (JPHS) will meet on Saturday November 4 at 10:30 am at the Martin Public Library 410 South Lindell Street in Martin. Those who have attended JPHS meetings in Martin in the past should note that this is the NEW library building. This will be JPHS’s last meeting for 2023. The meeting is being held in connection with the Smithsonian Institution’s travelling exhibit, Voices and Votes: Democracy in America. On August 5, 1977, Robert Rennick interviewed historian Lon Carter Barton at his home in Mayfield for over four hours discussing the history of community names in Graves County and the Jackson Purchase. Rennick was touring Kentucky researching the place names of villages, towns, and cities throughout the Commonwealth for a forthcoming publication.
