Bob Jost to Speak on the Trail of Tears at the Inland Waterways Museum on July 20th
The Jackson Purchase Historical Society will meet at the Inland Waterways Museum as part of their joint History on the River occasional series of programs on July 20. The meeting will begin at 10:30 am at the Museum at 117 South Water Street in Paducah.
The program will be presented by Bob Jost who will discuss his extensive research on the Trail of Tears, especially the Water Route, which went down the Tennessee River and then west on the Ohio. The various groups being removed via the Water Route passed directly in front of the building in which we will meet. The Trail of Tears (known as the Removal among Native Americans) involved the forced removal of tens of thousands of indigenous people from western Georgia and its environs to what is now Oklahoma.
Bob Jost is Vice President of the Kentucky Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association (TOTA) and is active in the Trail of Tears Association nationally.
If you are unable to attend, please go to the URL below and register to join us by Zoom. The meeting starts at 10:30 am, but Zoom will go live at 10:00 am so we can both check our connections.
